War and Peace Walker (2013)

War and Peace Walker is a generative storytelling piece for networked devices. It consists of a portable wireless router running open source firmware and custom software that uses a Markov Chain model of Tolstoy’s War and Peace to generate a unique text. Every 30 seconds, the next 32 characters of the text are broadcast to all nearby wireless devices through the SSID of the router’s network. Each sentence of the text is generated on the fly and deleted once it has been fully broadcast, so the entire narrative exists only in a distributed manner, in the memory of the devices around it.
